They expressed mutual appreciation and eagerness to commence joint initiatives, such as the proposed Thailand-Russia University Presidents Forum.Additionally, representatives elaborated on specific areas of collaboration, including academic exchanges, joint research projects, and cultural programmes. Plans were outlined for student exchanges encompassing bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, with a focus on facilitating linguistic and cultural immersion.
The dialogue also touched upon the seasonal differences between Thailand and Russia, underscoring the potential for enriching cross-cultural experiences for students through international exchanges.
In closing, both parties affirmed their commitment to the collaboration and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to strengthen ties between their respective institutions and countries. The meeting concluded with an invitation for further engagement and cooperation, signaling a promising start to the partnership.
The relationship with St Petersburg State University of Economics is formally established. In addition to student exchanges, there are now three specific projects active:
(i)The Rector invited our president and his delegation to visit them in St Petersburg in June. The purpose will be to add specific details to current level of relationship.
(ii)The Thai-Russian Summit of University Rectors (Presidents) will be held before the end of the year. Our president has committed to this, and he is thinking of inviting heads of Chulalongkorn, Thammasat, maybe Kasetsart University and others to join the meeting.
(iii)Energy Development for Emerging Markets towards Net Zero. The Russian university is supported by Gazprom, which is Russia’s largest energy exporter and one of the biggest in the world. They will organize a one-month long workshop for energy researchers or experts to visit Russia all expenses paid. We should try to get one of our (Chinese professor) faculty to be included in this. They will invite two people from every ASEAN country.
